The BioArt Bayou-torium @ Tony Marron Park April 13-21, 2019

The BioArt Bayou-torium launched its intital operations during the last three weekends of April 2019. The location was across from Tony Marron Park at 901 N. York Street, 77003. Admission was free and open to people of all ages.

The Bayou-torium debut was April 12th, 2019 on Buffalo Bayou across Tony Marron Park. The shipment container was equipped with 5 digital microscopes containing image-capturing hardware, 3 flat-screen for enlarged viewing, and a laptop with a color ink jet printer. Participants and visitors observed nature through microscopes, captured digital photos and my assistants made 8"x10" prints from images stored on the microscope memory chips. All was offered for free to each participant.

It also offered free pontoon boat rides with a nature and history docents twice a day. The free pontoon boat tours were part of the social practice project guided by exeperts in the natural life and the history maritime industry and labor force of the East End/Denver Harbor side of Buffalo Bayou.

As the managing artist/citizen scientist, I cooperate with the Buffalo Bayou Partnership (BBP) to provide the site location and the use of pontoon boats. I hired two art assistants, two tour boat guides and one boat captain to help manage the project and engage the general public in a new experience with this often hidden natural resource. All the hires are bilingual in order to appeal to the Spanish speaking communities in the Second Ward.
